Healthy weight range for your height
--

There is no single ideal weight. Aim for the healthy range and pick a personal goal inside it.

How ideal weight is estimated

The practical guide is the BMI-based healthy range (BMI 18.5 to 24.9) for your height. The four classic formulas below were originally built for medication dosing and each give a slightly different single number:

"over" = inches above 5 ft
Devine (M): 50 + 2.3 x over · (F): 45.5 + 2.3 x over
Robinson, Miller, Hamwi use different constants

Frequently asked questions

Why do the formulas disagree?

Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi were built for different purposes (originally medication dosing) and give slightly different numbers. That spread is why the BMI range is the more practical guide.

Does frame size matter?

Yes. People with larger frames sit naturally higher in a healthy range. The formulas do not capture frame or muscle, so treat them as rough anchors.

Ideal weight vs healthy weight vs goal weight?

Ideal weight is a formula output, healthy weight is a range where risk is low, and goal weight is your personal target. Aim for the healthy range and pick a goal inside it.

Is this suitable for very short or tall people?

The four formulas extrapolate poorly under 5 feet, so we hide them there and show the BMI range instead. For extremes, ask a professional.
